Stripes + Ruffles

Hello everyone,

My inspiration for this blog post comes from Zimmermann Spring 2017 RTW collection. I love ruffles because it adds a little dash of drama to any outfit. This skirt has EVERYTHING! It has all the frills without being too fussy. The combination of vertical stripes to elongate the body and ruffles to add volume, might make this skirt intimidating for some people, but it is really such a delight to wear. I added a white graphic tee, simple black sandal, and a vintage Gucci clutch purse to complete my look.

Oh, Baby!

Hi everyone!  It’s been a while.  Took some time off to focus on other aspects of my life. So many things have changed since my last blog post.  We are having a BABY!  I am so excited, but to be honest, a little nervous.  I wanted to share pictures from my amazing tea party themed baby shower.  It was organized by my wonderful mother-in-law and sister-in-law at the CakeBakeShop in Indianapolis.  I’ll be keeping you all posted on my pregnancy journey, what worked for me, and what I’ve learned so far.

New York State of Mind

I just returned from an amazing trip to New York City. I can totally understand why people move to this crazy, but exciting place. It took me a few hours to adjust to the sensory overload, but after that I was hooked. The loud noises, crowded spaces, visually stimulating landscape, and fresh air mixed with the aroma from food trucks and street corner garbage became my new normal and I loved it. John and I went to the Big Apple primarily for a wedding, but we extended our trip for a few days. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt on 42nd Street in Manhattan. Our hotel was conveniently located next to Grand Central Station and across from the Chrysler building. We grabbed a quick bite from a nearby Grecian food truck and explored Grand Central Terminal. We hurried back to the hotel to get ready for a party organized by Katie and Colin, the amazing bride and groom, at The Pavilion in Union Square Park.

The following day, we had breakfast at Sandwicherie, went shopping on 5th Avenue, ate at Eataly (by the Flatiron building), and walked around Madison Square Park. A bus took us to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, where the beautiful wedding took place.

The next day we tried to fit as many NYC landmarks as we could in one day. Started the day with a spicy hot dog from a street vendor. We visited Bryant Park, New York Public Library, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and Central Park. We had a late lunch at Rue 57 Brasserie Parisienne et Sushi Bar and took a taxi back to the hotel. We ended the day at Sakagura, a tapas-style Japanese Restaurant in Midtown. The place was hard to find, but it was definitely worth it.

My overall experience on this trip was fantastic. I visited places that I’ve always wanted to see. I met some of John’s East Coast relatives for the first time and I immediately fell in love with them. I had some of the most amazing food, and it was great to witness the union of Katie and Colin.

It’s been fun NYC! Goodbye until we meet again.

Style Inspiration: Menswear

My inspiration for this look came from Stella McCartney Spring RTW 2016 collection. The collection had a good mix of knitwear, athletic inspired designs, bright colored strips and checks, but what stood out to me was her modern take on the classic suit. I particularly liked the elongated proportions of the vests featured on the runway. I happen to own a similar black vest from Banana Republic. I styled mine with skinny pants, my favorite hat and went with a different colored shoe to add a pop of color.

The Perfect Cape

I believe outerwear should not only be functional, it also has to make a statement. I am a little obsessed with coats and people who know me would attest to that. My fascination with capes began two years ago and it has taken me over a year to find the perfect cape. I saw a couple I liked online, but they were either too expensive, had bad reviews, or they were from questionable websites that I wasn’t so sure about. A friend of mine sent me a link to this beautiful wool cape from J.Crew back in August, but I did not purchase it right away due to mixed online reviews. I went to my local J.Crew store to try it on and the rest, as they say, is history. Unfortunately this cape is no longer available online or in store. If cost is not an issue, J.Crew offers this lovely cashmere cape and a budget friendly option from J.Crew  factory. Many designers showed some version of cape outerwear in their fall 2015 runway collections. I really like the two capes featured below, the black one from Dolce & Gabbana and the dusty rose cape from Nanette Lepore.

Blush Pink & Black

I was looking through the Pre-Fall 2016 runway collections online at and the first designer I selected was Michael Kors. I’ve liked Michael Kors since his Project Runway days and I’m always excited to see what he has to offer. I seriously love all the outfits featured on his pre-fall 2016 collection and the two outfits below inspired my look today. I love the contrast of black with a soft feminine color like blush pink. And who does not love a pleated skirt?

Fall Closet Staples: Pullover + Cord

I usually exercise precaution when it comes to wearing clothes in the shades of my favorite color, purple. Similarly, I try not to be too “on the nose” about wearing clothes that represent my chosen profession. I am an optometrist, but it does not mean I have to buy things with glasses depicted on them. That was my philosophy until I came across this pullover from Banana Republic. How adorable are the cat-eye glasses graphic design! I love how soft the fabric is. It runs large, but I purposely chose a larger size because I was worried the sleeves may be too short. One of my pet peeves is when sleeves hit at that awkward position right below the wrist. Although it fits loosely, I’m very happy with the outcome.

Orange With Leopard

Hi everyone,

As the weather gets cooler, there is a propensity to wear warm/muted colors. Today, my primary focus is on one of the Pantone Shades for 2015 – orange. Colors in the orange family were prominently featured on Fall 2015 runway collections by designers such as Celine, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Kenzo, Christian Dior and so on. My style inspiration came from Joseph and Prabal Gurung Fall 2015 RTW collection. I love the design of this A-line dress. It has a forgiving quality because it flows away from the body. I accessorized with a pointy-toe leopard flat, black clutch, and a long gold necklace.

Ending the Summer in Blush & Navy

Hello everyone!

As we approach the end of summer, I find myself trying to wear as much of my summer clothes as possible before I have to store them away. The weather is definitely putting up a serious fight. It rained so much between June and July that most of my free time was spent indoors. It’s been in the 90’s for the past few days, which is fine with me. It reminds me of summer days in Atlanta and living in Nigeria. I used to be a summer girl, but after living in the midwest for the past few years, fall is becoming my favorite season. I love fall for so many reasons; the cooler temperature, the beautiful foliage, yummy food, and of course, fall fashion. I am so looking forward to my first pumpkin spice latte in a few days.

Hope you all have a great labor day with family and friends!

White & Navy

Happy Sunday! The dress featured today is another fab find from banana republic factory outlet store. I love the white and navy blue color combo of this printed shift dress. It’s a refreshing change from the white and black graphic prints that was popular during the spring. I was inspired by this asymmetrically cut white and navy blue dress from Prabal Gurung resort 2016 runway collection. I chose to style my dress with gold accessories and white peep-toe pumps. Hope you all have a lovely week.
