It’s all in the details.

We all have owned or worn a sweater dress at some point. It’s a must have during the colder months. What sets this black sweater dress apart? Just like the title says, it’s all in the details. The puffy sleeves are super fun and pretty pearl-shaped dots add charming elements to this dress. I styled my dress with black over-the-knee boots, an ivory coat and a red crossbody to add a pop of color.

Mixing Stripes

When you find something you love, you want to share it with the world. I absolutely love this stunning sweater dress from Jason Wu GREY. The brilliantly placed wider black stripes in the front and the narrower blue stripes in the back create a sizzling design that would compliment all body types. It’s very comfortable and because it’s made from Merino wool, it will definitely keep you warm. I styled my outfit with a black trunk box purse and black booties. This dress is also available for rent for 4 or 8 days via Rent the Runway.

Modern Lace

We were shopping on 5th Avenue in NYC when we came across this dress in the window at Karen Millen.  The modern and geometric lace detail of the dress made me fall in love with it.  I was first introduced to Karen Millen by a good friend of mine while in college, but their clothes were a little pricey for my college student budget.  I also like how the lace is layered over contrasting blue fabric. I wanted the dress to be the main focus, so I added a black clutch and black block-heeled sandals.

Black + Gold

The inspiration for my outfit came from the jumpsuit below featured on Antonio Berardi’s pre-fall 2016 collection.  There is nothing like a good jumpsuit that fits you in all the right places.  I prefer the sweetheart neckline of the H&M piece and I love how the bottom fits loosely before tapering off.  I completed my look with black and gold accessories.

Feeling warm and cozy

Happy new year! It’s finally starting to feel like winter in Indiana. We had a few inches of snow last week and I had to drive to work in it. I have been living in the midwest now for almost 8 years and I still dread driving in snow. So when the weather outside is frightful, I take pictures inside where I feel warm and cozy. I love textures because they add extra elements that can elevate any piece of clothing. The white and navy stitches on this sweater are arranged to create dots which complement the vertical lines of the corduroy pants. The beret also has interwoven black and gold threads to add color and drama to what would have been an ordinary beige hat. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate simple fabrics as well. I just prefer when clothes have textures and patterns.

The Perfect Cape

I believe outerwear should not only be functional, it also has to make a statement. I am a little obsessed with coats and people who know me would attest to that. My fascination with capes began two years ago and it has taken me over a year to find the perfect cape. I saw a couple I liked online, but they were either too expensive, had bad reviews, or they were from questionable websites that I wasn’t so sure about. A friend of mine sent me a link to this beautiful wool cape from J.Crew back in August, but I did not purchase it right away due to mixed online reviews. I went to my local J.Crew store to try it on and the rest, as they say, is history. Unfortunately this cape is no longer available online or in store. If cost is not an issue, J.Crew offers this lovely cashmere cape and a budget friendly option from J.Crew  factory. Many designers showed some version of cape outerwear in their fall 2015 runway collections. I really like the two capes featured below, the black one from Dolce & Gabbana and the dusty rose cape from Nanette Lepore.

Blush Pink & Black

I was looking through the Pre-Fall 2016 runway collections online at and the first designer I selected was Michael Kors. I’ve liked Michael Kors since his Project Runway days and I’m always excited to see what he has to offer. I seriously love all the outfits featured on his pre-fall 2016 collection and the two outfits below inspired my look today. I love the contrast of black with a soft feminine color like blush pink. And who does not love a pleated skirt?

Restyling Summer Dresses For Fall

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great thanksgiving with your family and loved ones. I took some time off, but now I’m back to continue offering outfits influenced by what I see on the runway. I was inspired by the beautiful cheetah print coat below from Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2015 runway collection. Since the weather is still fairly mild, I layered two of my favorite summer dresses to create a new outfit for fall.

For The Love Of Plaid

Plaid is synonymous with fall. This customary autumnal pattern is everywhere during this time of year and the runway is no exception. Designers such as Chloe, Michael Kors, Coach, Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Etro all featured this well beloved pattern in their Fall 2015 RTW runway collections. This beautiful plaid scarf was an impulse buy while shopping in Chicago last winter. I needed an oversize scarf to wrap around my neck on that chilly, windy night. It has become one of my go-to cold weather accessories. I wanted to showcase my scarf without having to wrap it around my neck. Styling it over my shoulder draws your attention immediately to the scarf, and using a neutral belt to emphasize my waist adds structure to the outfit.

On another note, I want to say a big thank you to my better half and my awesome photographer, John. He is my biggest cheerleader who always encourages and supports me in all of my endeavors. He often tells me, “that a nice outfit, we should take a picture and post it on your blog.” Besides being an optometrist as well, he also draws and plays the piano beautifully. He drew the cover art for Park Bench Stories, a collection of short stories by Kathleen Venezia (aka his mom) and he just completed the cover art for her soon to be released second book of short stories.

New Orleans, Y’all

I recently returned from a trip to New Orleans for the Academy of Optometry meeting. I had a poster presentation to show my ongoing research at Indiana University School of Optometry for my Master’s degree. It was exciting to present my research, but I was most excited to see one of my dearest friend, Kim. Kim and I were inseparable during school. She moved back to California after school and I haven’t seen her since her wedding last year. Although we stay in touch, it’s not the same as seeing each other. I also got to know her little sister and my fellow namesake, Linda. Kim, Linda and I explored French Quarters, shopped at the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, had beignets at Cafe Du Monde, had drinks at The rusty nail and ate at Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster bar on Bourbon Street. Tried the chargrilled oysters…so yummy, love the red beans and the jambalaya, but wasn’t a big fan of the crawfish étouffée. Before I knew it, it was time to return home. I was a little sad to leave Kim, but I know that the next time we see each other, we will be celebrating another milestone in life😊
