On Trend: Asymmetric Neckline

Hello everyone,

I have heard people talk about how beautiful a woman’s clavicle is, but most of us don’t really pay attention to that part of our body. Most of the clothes we wear either covers or drapes over our shoulders. With the popularity of the off-the shoulder silhouette, I can’t help but pay close attention to an alluring part of the body. It’s feminine and sexy without trying too hard. Carolina Hererra, Zimmermann, Self-Portrait, Cushnie and Rejina Pyo all featured asymmetrical neckline in their Fall 2019 runway collection. Which bring me to this stunning dress from Aijek Fall/Winter 2017 collection. I tend to gravitate towards outfits that have interesting design elements just like the asymmetry of this dress. The cool off-the-shoulder neckline, mismatched stripes and the high-low hem create a visually stunning dress. I hope you all love it like I do.

Modern Romance

Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time favorite books and I love the movie adaptation with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen. When I saw this whimsical dress by Jonathan Simkhai, I imagined this would be the type of dress a modern day Elizabeth Bennet would wear. It’s hard for me to pick my favorite design element on this darling dress. I love the hourglass fit, the puffy sleeves, the asymmetric ruffled hem, and the cute little buttons that decorate the bodice. What also made this photo session romantic is the blooming tree and falling petals in the background. To style this dress, I added a neutral sandal and my beloved tea rose purse from Coach.

As always, thanks for reading!

A Ray of Sunshine

Just when I thought the weather was warm enough to bring out my spring/summer clothes, the weather channeled Arya Stark and said, “not today”. It has been so wet, dreary and foggy for the past few days, but once in a while, rays of sunlight get through to brighten our cloudy days. Now, let’s talk about this stunning jumpsuit by Rebecca Taylor. It has everything a girl could ever want. It has ruffled little sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, a cutout below the bust and a smocked waistline to accentuate the waist. Also the wide pant legs create a slimming effect. All of the design elements may seem a bit much, but it somehow works. As you can see in the pictures below, I love and feel comfortable in this jumpsuit. I went with pastel color accessories to complement the dark blue color of the fabric.

Berry Velvet Crush

Spring has officially sprung! Praise the Lord. The novelty of cold weather wore off pretty quickly for me once the holiday season was over. I have been waiting patiently for warmer weather and it’s finally here. So, it makes sense that I start my first post this Spring with a beautiful transitional piece. This dress is truly stunning. From the vibrant berry color to the opulent velvet floral pattern and the high side split, what more could a girl ask for? I styled this dress with dangling earrings and kept the rest of my accessories minimal.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and as always, thanks for reading!

Fun with Faux Fur

Hello everyone,

I took a little break from blogging to focus on my family. The past few months have been really rough, but it has only made me stronger. I debated stopping my blog entirely but then I remembered what motivated me to blog to begin with. This is one of my creative outlets. Blogging gave me the freedom to combine two things I enjoy, writing and fashion. I could easily just post pictures on instagram and move on, but it never really gives me the satisfaction I get after I publish a new blog post. Although my priorities changed after I became a mom, I have to remember to do things that make me happy. I hope you all do the same too.

Mad for Plaid

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of plaid is a school uniform, so as a general rule, I tend to stay away from it. My first plaid purchase was a winter coat to keep this southern girl warm during my first winter in Indiana. My second plaid purchase was more spur-of-the-moment when we went to Chicago for Thanksgiving. Regretfully, I forgot to bring a scarf with me while shopping at an outside mall. I was desperately in need of something to keep me warm and this large oversized plaid scarf was exactly what I needed. Now, may I present to you my third plaid purchase, this chic wool blazer dress by MaryLing pictured below. I absolutely love this dress. It’s modern, it’s feminine and mostly importantly, it kept me warm. I added black long sleeve top and black booties to complete my look. Thanks for reading.

Goodbye Summer

As summer comes to an end, I can’t help but reflect on how tumultuous the past few months have been. We’ve had a back injury, a broken toe, multiple colds, and someone most dear to us is going through chemotherapy. Despite all of the above, we also had a lot of fun. Logan had his first birthday and went to the beach for the first time, visit from close friends, and my husband surprised me with tickets to see Beyonce and Jay Z. Through it all, I am very thankful and continue to pray for good news for one of the sweetest and kindest people I know. I am looking forward to a hopefully uneventful fall season with my family and friends.

Having lived half of my life in both Nigeria and Atlanta, I didn’t really appreciate fall weather until I moved to the midwest. I love the crisp, cool weather, and it is so nice to see foliage change to different shades of yellow, red, orange and brown. There is something tragic yet beautiful as we witness trees shed their leaves and remain in a stagnate state, patiently waiting for the chance to bloom once again. Until then, we will enjoy our warm cider, pumpkin-spiced lattes, everything autumn has to offer and of course, fall fashion.

Little White Dress

Hi everyone,

We all have a favorite little black dress, but a little white dress is also a fashion staple that we should all have and equally love. Traditionally, white dresses are often reserved for special occasions like graduations, bridal showers and weddings etc, but I think it’s time for this versatile piece to get more attention and use. This design from MSGM has asymmetric ruffled details which adds a fun element to this stunning dress. I styled this dress with white peep-toed pump and I chose a vintage Gucci purse to complete my look. This dress is currently on sale or it could be rented through rent the runway for 4 or 8 days.

For Pleat’s Sake!

Hello everyone,

There’s nothing like a dress that moves like a dream. This stunning number is so flattering. It hugs you in all the right places, and the bottom half flares out into beautiful pleats. The color block on this dress is unlike anything I’ve seen. The floral half adds enough drama to elevate the design of the dress without overwhelming the black half. I accessorized with a light blue Tea Rose crossbody and simple black block heel sandals.

Now, let’s talk about this amazing park. I stumbled upon it on a friend’s Facebook page and I was shocked that this gem was less than 30 minutes away from me. It’s called Holliday Park and it is located on the north side of Indianapolis. We will definitely be going back to visit.

Flower Power

Hello everyone,

I don’t know if I want to shimmy all day or do the cha-cha-cha in this beautiful jumpsuit. I instantly fell in love with the design. Its colorful floral pattern and the sweetheart neckline add a level of sweetness to this playful jumpsuit. The upper part fits like a corset, so you can definitely go without a bra. I went with simple accessories like this neutral clutch and dusty rose sandals to complete my outfit. The brand, Finders Keepers, is an Australian women’s fashion label, but you can buy their clothes at American retailers like Nordstrom and ASOS. The jumpsuit is no longer available in this pattern, but you can rent it for 4 or 8 days through RENT the RUNWAY. It is still available for purchase in black. I would recommend going up a size because this jumpsuit runs small.
