Stripes + Ruffles

Hello everyone,

My inspiration for this blog post comes from Zimmermann Spring 2017 RTW collection. I love ruffles because it adds a little dash of drama to any outfit. This skirt has EVERYTHING! It has all the frills without being too fussy. The combination of vertical stripes to elongate the body and ruffles to add volume, might make this skirt intimidating for some people, but it is really such a delight to wear. I added a white graphic tee, simple black sandal, and a vintage Gucci clutch purse to complete my look.

Spring Awakening

Hello everyone,

It has been exactly a year since my last blog post. I have been preoccupied with raising a beautiful baby boy (see @runwayinspired on instagram for more details). Motherhood has completely changed my life and I’m better for it. It definitely has its ups and downs. I feel like every time I figure things out, something else changes and then I have to learn to adapt to the new thing…sigh. It took me a while before I can finally tell myself “girl, you got this”. I can handle the roles of wife, mother, optometrist, and also have a semi-functioning social life. I just have to prioritize and take it step by step. I also have an amazing support system, i.e. my husband, my mom, and my in-laws.

I am very happy to be able to resume my fashion blog. I must confess, it was very hard to feel fashionable while I was handling spills, cleaning spit up, and having him constantly cling to me. But as my little guy gets older and with a better routine, I’m starting to have a little more time to myself. So let’s go back to talking about clothes, shall we?

It’s spring time and you can’t talk about spring fashion without florals. My cute floral chiffon dress with ruffled trims was purchased at BCBGMAXAZRIA last summer and I finally just got the chance to wear it. The dress is no longer available, but I have attached a similar style below. I added neutral accessories to complete my look.

Thanks for reading and happy mother’s day to all the moms and moms-to- be.

Oh, Baby!

Hi everyone!  It’s been a while.  Took some time off to focus on other aspects of my life. So many things have changed since my last blog post.  We are having a BABY!  I am so excited, but to be honest, a little nervous.  I wanted to share pictures from my amazing tea party themed baby shower.  It was organized by my wonderful mother-in-law and sister-in-law at the CakeBakeShop in Indianapolis.  I’ll be keeping you all posted on my pregnancy journey, what worked for me, and what I’ve learned so far.

A weekend getaway

John and I recently returned from Connecticut to attend a friend’s wedding. We flew into Hartford, but stayed at the New Haven Hotel in New Haven. Prior to the trip, we planned to explore Yale University, and I particularly wanted to see the Yale University Art Gallery and East Rock Park. Little did I know that our plans would be derailed by unforeseen circumstances. John and I were unusually forgetfull on this trip. We forgot a tooth brush, contact lenses, a lint roller for dark clothes and cologne. I was miserable at the airport and on the plane because I forgot to bring a sweater/jacket because I’m always cold. As soon as we checked into our hotel, we went in search of a CVS/Walgreens to buy the things we needed. We had been up since 7:00am and our last meal was at 9:00am, so we were both tired and hungry. After getting lost and walking around for sometime, we finally found a Walgreens but it was a small one and it didn’t sell a lint roller. By this time, it was already 4:30pm and we had to meet up with our friends for a get-together at 5pm. We were directed to another Walgreens about 2 blocks away, so we set off and eventually found it and purchased what we needed. We rushed back to meet up with our friends at Cask Republic for cocktails. Our day had some hiccups, but it ended well.

The next day, the wedding ceremony didn’t begin until 5pm, so I thought we could go explore Yale University after breakfast. John got up to shower, but something was wrong with the water pipes. It literally sounded like someone was drilling next door when he ran the hot water. We were eventually moved to a different room and by then, I had no desire to go anywhere. We got ready for the wedding and a bus took us to the picturesque town of Guilford. Guilford was everything I thought a New England town would be, but the Yacht club really blew me away. The wedding ceremony was heartfelt, and the bride and groom looked beautiful. It really was a fun wedding, and even my little stumble on the dance floor did not dampen my good mood.

So, let me tell you about my stumble. John and I were dancing and Rihanna’s song “We found love” came on. As the song reached the crescendo, I imagined I was at a rave and started banging and swinging my head. Before I knew it, I lost my balance and started to fall.  John, Steve, Rachel and Brandon tried to catch me, but luckily a perfectly placed chair broke my fall. We all had a good laugh and didn’t let that stop us. I got back on the dance floor and danced the night away with John and our friends. To top it all off, an older female guest came up to me at the end of the night and said, “I have been watching you all night and you’re the best dancer here!”

Congrats to Alex and Karen!

My Take On An Old Classic

The universal layering piece everyone has in their closet is a cardigan. The cardigan featured below is my all time favorite layering piece. I fell in love with it at first sight a few years ago and immediately purchased it at a local LOFT store. I love the pretty chiffon petals attached to the front and the slim cut of the design. I was inspired to restyle this cardigan after reading about ways to wear a cardigan without looking frumpy in the May 2016 issue of InStyle magazine. I chose to wear mine over a drop waist navy dress. I added a skinny belt to draw attention to my waist. I also like it without a belt for a more relaxed fit.

Soft and Sweet

I hope everyone is as excited for spring as I am. I always look forward to this time of year because of what spring signifies, an awakening. I love seeing trees come to life, flowers blooming, milder climate and of course, spring fashion. I was inspired by Carolina Herrera Spring 2016 RTW collection. The term “feminine elegance” comes to mind as I perused through her collection online (via I want every single item on that runway show. She found a way to modernize tulle, pleats, sheer paneling and transparent mesh to create timeless pieces that women of all ages would want to wear.

Mixing Prints

Hello my fellow fashion lovers,

I’ve been noticing the mixing of prints/patterns trend for a while now, but I was a little hesitant to try it. I told myself that If I’m going to attempt this trend, I definitely want to take it easy, maybe try two prints in colors and patterns that I feel comfortable with. That’s the main reason why I started this blog. Take inspirations from the runway and make it so that it is wearable for everyone. Not every runway look can transition into wearable fashion, but what’s the fun in it if you don’t take fashion risks. I chose DKNY RTW spring 2015 as my inspiration. You can’t go wrong with a black and white motif and I wanted to go with patterns that won’t overwhelm my body frame. The ikat dot tee compliments the geometric pattern of the pencil skirt. I chose my accessories wisely. I wanted accessories that would stand out, but not take away from the outfit itself. I’m very happy with the outcome.

Minimalist Style

It’s my birthday! I want to say a big thank you to everyone that has called, texted, sent Facebook and Instagram messages. It has been a wonderful couple of days leading up to today. My husband, John, surprised me with a new bike on Sunday, met up with friends for dinner and I got to spend the day shopping with the best mother-in-law ever. I’m so grateful for my amazing family, friends and for everyone who has been supportive of all my endeavors. I wanted to keep my style simple and clean. I went with a black pleated midi skirt with a basic ivory top. I added a gold belt to create a focal point and black flats because comfort is essential when going shopping.

Graphic Tee & Faux-Leather

Hi everyone!!! People who know me would attest to my indifference to sports generally. My husband, John, is the complete opposite. His level of commitment and excitement as he watches his favorite sport teams (Premier League Football, particularly Arsenal Football Club, IU Basketball, Indiana Pacers, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, e.t.c) is admirable and infectious. As I watch his games with him, I find myself getting into it too, but only for that particular moment and then I’m off to do something else. I’m usually right next to him watching a show on my computer or reading. So in the spirit of March Madness, I’m starting off spring in a sporty style. But of course, it wouldn’t be completely me without adding feminine elements (i.e heels, sunglasses and red lips). I really love the faux-leather front sloan fit pants from Banana Republic. The material at the back of the pants is stretchy so it contours to your figure. My style inspiration came from DKNY Resort 2015.

Spring Forward with neutrals and tribal print

Hi everyone! I am transitioning into Spring with a classic trench coat, nude booties and tribal print dress. I was inspired by Donna Karan Spring 2014 RTW collection. The designer included prints with Northern Africa and South Asia color motif in her runway show. Enjoy and don’t forget to move your watches and clocks an hour ahead.
